2015 Western Canadian Jazz Hits the Mark with #1 and #8 Albums on National Radio

From the fields of the Canadian Prairies came two impressive contemporary jazz albums in 2015. Earshot Online reports two Chronograph albums amongst the favourites on Canadian jazz radio last year.

Taking the yearly top spot, Edmonton’s A/B Trio held fast for 2 months at #1 across the country with their album “Out West” recorded with jazz veteran and JUNO winner Mike Murley. The album earned the group their first Western Canadian Music Award nomination and a shortlist for Edmonton’s music prize. “Out West” shows the group’s inspirations from contemporary players such as Chris Potter, and Dave Holland, as well as jazz greats Sonny Rollins and Joshua Redman.

Coming in at #8 on the list, Calgarian Tyler Hornby recorded “Launch” with Canadian jazz legends Ingrid Jensen and David Braid. The album spent many weeks at national radio and charted in the US. “Launch” earned Tyler his third Western Canadian Music Award nomination in 2015. The music is hard-driving, polyrhythmic, original compositions that combines catchy melodies with a contemporary rhythm section, creating multiple soundscapes and textures.

Chronograph Records would like to thank jazz radio across Canada and our partners at Dale Speaking for helping jazz listeners hear our new music!
